# Card link opens a file or does nothing

If a shop's card link opens a file or does nothing, it's usually open inside another app, such as Instagram or Facebook. Open it in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android instead.

Review status: Not yet checked in the app; built from a read-only review of the app screens.

The card link opens in the right browser, so you can add the card to your phone.

**Who can do this:** Anyone with the shop's card link or QR code.

## Before you start

- The card link from the shop, or its printed QR code

## Steps

### Step 1

**iPhone:** in the app where you found the link, use its "Open in browser" option, or copy the link.

> Apps like Instagram, Facebook and Messenger open links in their own built-in browser. That browser often can't pass the card to Apple Wallet.

### Step 2

**iPhone:** open **Safari** and paste the link.

> The card page itself says: "Please open this page in your Safari browser. The card can only be issued in Safari."

### Step 3

**iPhone:** tap **Install in Apple Wallet**, then tap Add in the preview.

In the app: 'Install in Apple Wallet' → 'Add'

### Step 4

**Android:** press and hold the link, then open it in **Chrome**.

> Inside another app's browser, Google sign-in doesn't work, and neither does installing the card on your home screen.

### Step 5

**Android:** tap **Install in Google Wallet**.

In the app: 'Install in Google Wallet'

## What you should see

The card page opens in Safari or Chrome, and the card goes into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

## If something goes wrong

### A file downloads instead of the card (iPhone)

**Likely cause:** The link was opened outside Safari. The card is an Apple Wallet file (.pkpass): Safari passes it straight to Wallet, but other apps' built-in browsers often don't.

Copy the link, paste it into **Safari** and tap **Install in Apple Wallet** again.

### Nothing happens when you tap the install button

**Likely cause:** The link is open inside another app's built-in browser.

On iPhone, open the link in **Safari**. On Android, press and hold the link and open it in **Chrome**.

### Google sign-in fails inside Instagram or Facebook (Android)

**Likely cause:** Google blocks sign-in inside other apps' built-in browsers.

Press and hold the link and open it in **Chrome**, then tap **Install in Google Wallet**.

### You can't find a way to open the link in a browser

**Likely cause:** The link is stuck in the app's built-in browser.

Scan the shop's printed QR code with your phone's camera instead, or ask the shop that gave you the card to send you the link again.

## Need a person?

There's no setting that makes the link open outside Instagram or Facebook: opening it in Safari or Chrome is the fix. If you still can't get the card, contact the shop that gave you the card and ask for the link again. Customers can't use Loyaltymaster's in-app chat. If you run the business, you can contact Loyaltymaster support at any time.
