Let customers choose what to save for: a drink extra at 25 stars, coffee or a snack at 100, a handcrafted drink or breakfast at 200, or lunch at 300. Grinds Reward Card shows how one wallet card can explain those choices with different reward artwork.

Use this coffee-shop example to plan and create your own Reward card, then check how it looks and works before sharing it. You need a Loyaltymaster account with access to create cards, your business details and a device for checking the installed card. Have your own artwork ready if you want to use images.

The dollar amounts, rewards and bonus choices are examples you can adapt. “Stars” is the name used for points in the customer reward descriptions; the editor and Scanner App use points.

## Decide the offer

This example uses **Spend** with **$2.00 = 1 point**. A $20 eligible purchase represents 10 base points. Agree which purchases qualify and how staff record them before advertising the offer.

| Stars needed | Customer reward |
| --- | --- |
| 25 | Drink customization: an extra espresso shot, syrup, dairy substitute or another eligible extra |
| 100 | Brewed hot or iced coffee, hot tea, a bakery item or a packaged snack, up to $6 value |
| 200 | A handcrafted drink such as a latte, cold brew or frappe, or a hot breakfast item, up to $10 value |
| 300 | A lunch sandwich, protein box or at-home packaged coffee, up to $16 value |

Create each offer as a separate **Custom** reward with its own point threshold and description.

For this example, keep the card valid indefinitely and let earned points expire after six months. Start with no welcome or birthday bonus. A referral bonus of 10 points for each person is an optional addition. These are offer choices, not product defaults.

## See the artwork change

Adding an image to each reward level is optional. It gives your card a polished appearance and helps customers recognise the reward available to them. As a customer's balance reaches a level, the central artwork on their phone changes to that reward's image.

In this example, the four images show the rewards customers can work towards:

![Reward artwork for 25 stars (drink extras), 100 stars (coffee or a snack), 200 stars (a handcrafted drink or breakfast) and 300 stars (lunch or packaged coffee).](/media/reward-previews-20261024-9b256cf9f2127d9049709936dabb1ef2747ce36c7e131d0e29858d610dbd523b.webp)

- **25 stars, top left:** the drink-extra image shows customers they can claim an eligible customization.
- **100 stars, top right:** the coffee-and-snack image introduces the reward worth up to $6.
- **200 stars, bottom left:** the drink-and-breakfast image presents the reward worth up to $10.
- **300 stars, bottom right:** the lunch-and-coffee image presents the reward worth up to $16.

These are artwork previews; the balance and reward fields contain sample values. Select **View larger image** for a closer look.

Choose pictures and short wording that make your own rewards easy to recognise. Use PNG images at least **1125 × 432 pixels**, within the **3 megabytes** upload limit. You can offer all four rewards without adding an image to every level.

## Use Happy hours to explain an extra-points offer

The **Happy hours** example is **1.2×**, from **14:00 to 15:00**, on **Monday, Saturday and Sunday**. Qualifying purchases earn 20% more points during that period. A purchase worth 10 base points would earn 12 under this rule.

This gives you a way to encourage visits during a chosen hour. Use a schedule your staff can explain. Before advertising the schedule, check the operating time zone and how fractional points are handled. If you add another promotion, check how it works with Happy hours.

## Set up your own card

Follow these stages to create the four-level offer. The [full Reward setup guide](/cards-creation/reward) explains alternative earning methods and optional settings.

### Create the card and earning rule

1. Sign in and open **Cards → Create card**. Choose **From scratch**. You can also start from a template that suits your offer.
2. Name the card, select **Reward**, then select **Continue** to open **Settings**.
3. Choose the **Barcode type** your staff will scan. Under **Reward Program**, choose **Spend**. For the example's earning rule, enter `2.00` in the purchase-amount field and `1` in the points field. Check the currency before continuing.

![Reward Program set to Spend with the example $2.00 equals 1 point.](/media/reward-earning-20261024-31f8fcdc749c206064c004c1914f20eb0a768630a4c9e13b4d9ac187c8ce3b65.webp)

### Add the rewards

1. Enter a **Reward level name** describing the 25-star drink extra. Enter `25` in **Reward points earned** and choose **Custom** under **Reward type**. Optionally upload the image for this reward.
2. Use **Add reward** for the other three offers. Enter `100`, `200` and `300` as their thresholds and use the matching descriptions in [Decide the offer](#decide-the-offer). Give each reward its own image if you want the artwork to change with the customer's balance.
3. Leave UTM and segment restrictions unselected for an offer available to all your cardholders. UTM links identify where customers came from; segments are customer groups. If you want to limit repeat claims, ask Support how to set **Usage limit**, **Limit period** and **Calendar period** for your offer before relying on them.

### Set the schedule, expiry and staff requirements

1. To include the extra-points offer, set **Happy hours** to a **Multiplier** of `1.2`, **From** `14:00`, **Till** `15:00`, on **Monday**, **Saturday** and **Sunday**. Leave it out if you do not want Happy hours. **Promotions** is a separate optional choice.
2. Set **Card expiration date** to **Unlimited**. Under **Lifetime points**, choose **Fixed term after bonuses earned**, then **6 Months**. This keeps the card valid while limiting how long customers can keep earned points.
3. Select your participating **Locations**, **Language**, **Date format**, **Thousands Separator** and **Decimal Separator**.
4. Enable **Purchase amount is required in Scanner App** and leave **Require a comment when crediting** off for this offer. Leave **Track visit when redeem reward** and **Earn points when redeem reward** off if claiming a reward should not count as a visit or earn more points.

### Prepare customer signup and installation

1. In **Card issuing form**, choose each **Field type** and enter a **Field name** customers will understand. Select **Required** for information they must provide and **Unique** for values that must differ between customers. If a control is locked, ask Support about the available options before issuing cards.
2. Set **Phone mask** to your country format. Enter your business's wording for **Privacy policy**, **Consent to the processing of personal data** and **Privacy policy (full text)**, and review their switches.
3. Choose whether to show the **Google Wallet Installation button** and **PWA Installation button**. PWA is the web-app installation option. Review **Card installation via shared link** and **Limit the number of cards issued**; use **0 - unlimited** if you do not want an issue limit. The shared-link setting does not prevent installation through an individual link.
4. Set **Number of points when issuing a card** and **Number of birthday points** to `0` to start without those bonuses. If you add a birthday bonus later, arrange to collect the birthday information. Campaign-specific UTM welcome bonuses can override these card settings; leave them unused for this offer or check them separately. Analytics and **Meta Ads** tracking are optional.
5. Select **Continue** to open **Design**.

### Design the card

1. Upload your **Logo**, **Icon** and **Background of the central part**. The base background is separate from the optional reward-level images. Follow the [artwork sizes and formats](/cards-creation/reward#design) and check the preview for clipping.
2. Set readable **Colors**. Under **Fields name**, choose **Till the next reward** and **Reward**. Enter `Till the next reward` and `Rewards` as the names customers will see.
3. Choose whether to enable **Show logo at card issuing form** and **Show background color on card issuing form**. Select **Continue** to open **Information**.

### Add business details and optional referrals

1. Enter your **Card description** and **Company name**. For example, describe the offer as `Earn stars with every eligible purchase and choose from four rewards.`
2. For the optional **Referral program**, choose **Active**, select **First visit / card use by a new customer** under **Get bonus at the moment when**, and enter `10` for both **Number of points for the referrer** and **Number of points for a referral**. Otherwise choose **Inactive**.
3. Add your business destinations under **Active links** and open them to check they work. **Feedback links** is optional. An optional **Link for redirection after card installation** applies to Apple Wallet installations.
4. Complete **Issuer information** with your business name, email and contact number. Add the terms below before saving.

## Explain your offer on the back of the card

In **Information**, enable **Terms of use** and enter the wording that explains how your own rewards programme works. Customers can read this information on the back of their card in the wallet. Include how they earn stars, what they can claim, when points expire and any conditions that apply.

For a business using the four rewards and Happy hours schedule in this example, the offer could read:

> Earn 1 star for every $2 of eligible spending. Exchange stars for rewards at 25, 100, 200 and 300 stars. During Happy hours, earn 20% more stars from 14:00 to 15:00 on Monday, Saturday and Sunday. The card has no expiry date. Stars expire six months after they are earned.

Add your reward descriptions, value limits and eligible purchases. If you offer referral or birthday bonuses, explain those too. Choose rules that suit your business, and use the same reward names and conditions in your artwork, card information and staff instructions.

## Save, install and check your card

1. Review the offer, then select **Save and preview**, or **Finish** at the bottom of Information.
2. Inspect the front and back of the preview. Use **Copy link** to copy your own card's installation link, or scan its QR code on your test device.
3. Check the settings named in the activation warning before confirming; some choices will become locked. If activation is required, use the available **Activate** or **Activate Card** control and follow its confirmation. If the card is already **Active**, do not activate it again. See the [save, preview and activation instructions](/cards-creation/reward#save--preview) if you need help.
4. Open the installation link on your test device and follow the [Apple Wallet](/how-to-install-the-card/add-to-apple-wallet) or [Google Wallet](/how-to-install-the-card/add-to-google-wallet) instructions for that device.
5. Check the installed card's artwork, terms and links. Then test earning and claiming with your staff using the counter steps below, before sharing your link or QR code with customers.

## Add points and redeem a reward

These steps are for staff using Scanner App with the Spend offer above.

### Add points

1. Staff [sign in to Scanner App](/scanner-app/login-in-the-scanner-app). Scan the customer's card or use **Search customers**, then verify the correct customer and card.
2. Select **Add**. For this Spend setup, enter the eligible purchase amount in **Fill in the purchase amount, USD**, then select **Add points**. Enter the purchase value, not the number of stars you calculated.
3. On the separate **Confirmation** screen, check the purchase amount and select **Add**. A comment is normally optional. Enter a purchase amount here if your card requires it, and complete a comment if you enabled that requirement.
4. On the separate **Successful operation** screen, select **Done** and check the updated card. Check the points awarded against your earning rule, including purchases that do not divide evenly into whole points.
### Redeem a reward

1. When the customer wants a reward, open **Redeem** and select the available named reward. For example, a customer with **56** points can choose the **25 Stars** drink customization for **25 points**.
2. On the separate confirmation screen, verify the reward and select **Redeem**. A comment is normally optional; enter a purchase amount if your card requires it. Check success and the remaining balance before repeating the claim.

Before launch, test adding points and claiming a reward with your staff. Check the wallet balance and make sure the expiry and promotion rules work as intended. If a control, amount or result differs, [contact Support](/fix) before repeating the transaction.
